Privacy Policy
Penang Bridge is an independent travel blog. We try to keep this as plain and honest as the rest of the site. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using this website you agree to the practices described below.
Last updated: June 2026
What we collect
We collect very little, and only what we need:
- Newsletter details. If you choose to subscribe, we collect your email address (and your first name, if you give it). You provide this voluntarily — you don't need to subscribe to read anything on the site.
- Anonymous analytics. Like most websites, we collect basic, aggregated data about how the site is used — pages viewed, rough location at country or city level, the type of device and browser, and how visitors arrived. This is statistical and is not used to identify you personally.
- Messages you send us. If you email us, we keep your message and contact details so we can reply and follow up.
How we use your information
We use this information to send the newsletter you signed up for, to understand which guides are useful so we can write better ones, to keep the website working and secure, and to respond to your enquiries. We do not sell your personal information, and we don't send marketing emails you didn't ask for.
Third parties
To run the site we rely on a small number of trusted service providers, including an email newsletter platform (which stores subscriber lists and sends our emails) and a website analytics provider. These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms. We share only what's necessary for them to provide their service.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We use a minimal set, mainly to remember basic preferences and to support anonymous analytics. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; the site will still work, though some conveniences may not. Some third-party tools we use may set their own cookies as described in their policies.
Data retention
We keep newsletter details for as long as you remain subscribed. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and when you unsubscribe we remove you from the active list. Analytics data is retained in aggregated form for a limited period to help us spot trends.
Your rights
You can ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. To make any of these requests, just get in touch and we'll sort it out as quickly as we reasonably can.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "last updated" date above. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
